Mandatory Nationwide E-Verify

The magnet drawing illegal immigrants to the United States is the availability of jobs. Despite the existence of the E-Verify system, which allows employers to check the work eligibility of new hires, its use remains voluntary for most employers. Unscrupulous businesses exploit illegal labor for cheap wages, undercutting American workers and legal immigrants. Without mandatory E-Verify, there is no effective way to ensure that jobs go to those legally authorized to work. This drives down wages for working Americans, particularly in construction, agriculture, food service, and other industries.
